Porvoon Mitta
The hotel is named after a measuring cup dating back to the era of the Swedish regime. The bailiff used it for collecting taxes from the inhabitants of Porvoo; grain, game, fur and fish. He used two measures of different sizes. The bigger one he used when he was collecting taxes and the smaller one when he delivered the taxes to the king. The bailiff kept the difference for himself.
The Porvoo Measuring Cup -souvenir is based on this story. This tin mug with a mid-bottom demonstrates the idea of the old-time measure that came in two sizes. Nowadays the saying “with the Porvoo measure” expresses abundance. The hotel's own Porvoo measuring cups can be purchased in the hotel lobby and at the restaurant Timbaali.
