The Hotel
The Hotel Porvoon Mitta is a family enterprise owned by Ari Kovero and Merja Tammi and their 7 children.
The History of Porvoon Mitta
The hotel is named after a measuring cup dating back to the era of the Swedish regime. The bailiff used it for collecting taxes from the inhabitants of Porvoo; grain, game, fur and fish. He used two measures of different sizes. The bigger one he used when he was collecting taxes and the smaller one when he delivered the taxes to the king. The bailiff kept the difference for himself. The Porvoo Measuring Cup -souvenir is based on this story. This tin mug with a mid-bottom demonstrates the idea of the old-time measure that came in two sizes. Nowadays the saying “with the Porvoo measure” expresses abundance. The hotel's own Porvoo measuring cups can be purchased in the hotel's lobby.
Location
Hotel Porvoon Mitta is located in the heart of the old Porvoo next to the old Town Hall, opposite the “Remu castle” only 100 metres from the medieval church of Porvoo.
Idyllic atmosphere
The hotel shares an idyllic courtyard with the restaurant Timbaali. For weddings and other major festive occasions we can provide a large tent in our courtyard. Restaurant Timbaali takes the reservations and provides the catering.
